Calibration Technician role overview: 

The Calibration Technician is responsible for performing calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities on a wide range of process and instrumentation equipment to ensure operational accuracy, reliability, and compliance with regulatory standards. Based at a state-of-the-art biologics facility in Dublin and operating within a shift-based environment, 60/24 shift pattern, this role supports production and facility operations by executing scheduled calibration activities, responding to equipment issues, and maintaining accurate system documentation. The position works closely with client stakeholders and internal teams to coordinate calibration schedules, manage discrepancies, and ensure instrumentation remains within specification. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving while maintaining compliance with company procedures and applicable industry regulations.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled calibrations on a wide range of instrumentation, including temperature, pressure, flow, humidity, level, balances, pH, and conductivity analysers, as well as other measurement equipment, in accordance with client procedures, company standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Support facility and process calibration activities to ensure equipment accuracy, reliability, and compliance with regulatory and operational requirements.
  • Respond to equipment failures or instruments found to be out of specification and support production teams by troubleshooting and restoring equipment to operational status.
  • Interact professionally with client area owners and production personnel to coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance activities in a compliant and efficient manner.
  • Plan and coordinate equipment downtime where required to facilitate on-line calibrations, maintenance activities, or vendor support.
  • Follow established procedures for calibration discrepancies, including escalation and follow-up of equipment identified as out of tolerance.
  • Manage overdue or quarantined equipment in accordance with calibration department procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Follow decommissioning procedures for equipment that cannot be repaired and ensure appropriate documentation and system updates are completed.
  • Maintain accurate and organized calibration records and documentation in compliance with GAMP, FDA, and company quality standards.
  • Update calibration management systems (CMMS) to ensure calibration data, equipment status, and maintenance records remain accurate and current.
  • Collaborate with team members to support calibration activities, continuous improvement initiatives, audits, and investigations as required.
  • Maintain required training and certifications to ensure compliance with company and client requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience and Key Competencies:

  • A Level 6 Diploma or Level 7 Degree qualification in Instrumentation, Calibration, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or a FETAC Level 6 trade qualification in Instrumentation or Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I).
  • Experience performing calibration, maintenance, or troubleshooting of process instrumentation within a regulated industrial environment such as pharmaceuticals, biologics, manufacturing, or similar sectors.
  • Knowledge of calibration principles and experience working with instruments such as temperature, pressure, flow, humidity, level, pH, conductivity, and dimensional measurement equipment.
  • Familiarity with calibration management systems or Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, with experience using platforms such as Maximo considered advantageous.
  • Understanding of regulated industry standards and quality requirements, including familiarity with GAMP, FDA, or similar regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, and equipment documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy when recording calibration results and maintaining compliance with quality procedures.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with client representatives, production teams, and internal colleagues.
  • The ability to work effectively within a team environment while also demonstrating initiative and problem-solving capabilities when responding to equipment issues.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple calibration activities in a fast-paced, shift-based operational environment.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and applications including Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
